I’m Sore

The post isn’t going to be writing related today. It’s about other things going on in my life that I think are valid to talk about on here, though. So, part of my 2019 goals were about health, including losing weight. I definitely need to lost weight to be healthy. I had that big life change just over a year and a half ago, and I went from working on my feet for 50 hours a week, and doing a very physical job, to sitting on my butt a lot, and working a moderate physical, casual job. Big change. You might see where I’m going here. I gained weight. But, in the lead up to the big transition, I also gained some weight because I was miserable.

When I first made the change, I tried to get out a lot and walk, and do other things, but it didn’t really happen. When I was living in the city, it was very easy for me to walk out my front door and off to adventures. It’s not the same here, and you can only walk to the same place so many times before you get bored. Plus, I was spending a lot of time working on my book, which naturally means I sit more. Sometimes, if my body is hurting from all the sitting, I can rig up a standing desk, and that’s nice, but it still doesn’t do much for the whole weight thing.

I knew, when I set my 2019 goals that I didn’t just want to have one that said “lose x amount of pounds.” I think it’s a much bigger thing than that, and I also wanted to make sure that my mind was healthy. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been working on somewhat regularly. I think I did pretty well in February. Over the weekend, though, I decided that I wanted to define some of my goals a little better, specifically in regards to writing. However, it meant that I looked at all my goals. And one of them was the generic “lose weight” goal. I have since set a number goal, and a date that I want to hit it by. I also have committed to working out four times a week. Which seems crazy to me, so we’ll see how it goes. We actually have a mini gym in the house, so it’s been pretty easy so far. I think the biggest challenge with be keeping with it. But because I’ve been doing it so consistently, I’m a bit sore.

However, I’m not going to lie, I feel pretty good. I had a pretty significant weight loss a few years ago, but I didn’t have to do anything for it. It was just because I was working two jobs, which were both pretty physical, and walking everywhere. I actually remember looking at myself in a mirror at one point and saying “I think I need to increase the amount of food I eat”, because I was just losing it so fast because of everything I was doing. So I supersized it. And then I switched jobs and was doing an even more physical job, so I got ripped. When that job changed and everything stopped being fun, I started to put the weight back on, and ate a lot.

What I’m trying to say is that I didn’t have to put effort into it before, so I’m not really sure how it works. I think I’m doing things right. I’m trying to eat better, I’m drinking a lot of water, and I’m working out. Those are the basics, right? We’ll see how this month goes, and then figure things out, I guess.

This morning when I woke up, I was kind of sore. It was just on the edges, and as the day went on, it more or less went away. I decided that working out today would make that better, and it kind of did, but also kind of didn’t. I did, however, get the work out in, and then managed to hit my writing goal for the day, so I can call that a win. My body, however, is not begging me to lay down, so I think I’m going to do that now, and we’ll see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow morning. Regardless, I’m pretty stoked about this. At least for now.
