I think I could honestly title about six blog posts with the above “I have a problem”. It’s because I have this stationery obsession. I don’t know if that’s the right word for it, but we’ll go with it for now. I REALLY like stationery. I think everyone who knows me know this about me. I will go into a drugstore or grocery store and check the stationery section there, because maybe they have something new and cool that I need to buy. It’s bad. Honestly, I’ll probably write a few posts talking about some of my various different stationery favourites, like pens and notebooks. I have a lot of pens, and I’ve tried out many. Notebooks… I don’t think I’m ashamed, but I have 70+ notebooks, and the majority of them are either unused, or underused. I have, however, filled up a few notebooks in my time, and that is a very satisfying thing. I love notebooks. I can’t even express how much.
But I didn’t come here to talk about pens or notebooks today. I came here to talk about Post-It Notes, because I think they really sum up my obsession with stationery items.
I’ve always loved the idea of Post-It Notes. I thought they were awesome and I would buy them, but NEVER use them. I think I just wanted to have them, even though I had no use for them. I think I kept it pretty under control. But sometime, more recently, it got out of hand.

I realized after I took this picture that this isn’t even all the colours I have. There was a full stack to the side of my desk that I missed, plus I didn’t add any of the duplicates.
But here’s the cool thing, I, at least now, have a legitimate reason to have all these Post-It Notes. I ACTUALLY use them now; quite regularly, in fact. The wall in front of my desk is covered with Post-It Notes, to the point that I feel like I’m trying to solve a crime, instead of write a book. I almost want to connect the notes with red string just to complete that look. They have also FULLY invaded my planning guides which I talked about the other day. When I was creating the guides, I left a lot of space so I could add in notes all over, but that got out of hand, and I now have some pages with layers of Post-It Notes, because I just didn’t have enough space. Which is kind of insane, because I had the guides printed on only one side of the page for the purpose of leaving space for notes. Guess it didn’t would out as well as it could have, but at least I have a solution.
But the Post-It flags! Wow! Those have been a life changer. Well, at least for planning purposes. It’s actually funny, I still have a set of flags that I probably bought sometime while I was at university, and hardly ever used. Now, I use them all the time. Well, when planning, I use them all the time. Not so much when I’m writing the actual book. I have a system. I use the purple flag for people, the blue ones for buildings/places, and the yellow ones for important plot points. The other colours, I just use to mark other things that I think I should remember where they are. I love them.

I think I’m trying to justify my love of stationery, by highlighting how I started buying something just to buy it, and now it’s an integral part of my daily writing life. Or maybe I’m just trying to show off my beautiful collection, I don’t know. What I do know, is I want more Post-It Notes… because I have a problem.
Me, too! I never manage to use the post-its well but maybe some day…

There’s hope! It took me forever to start using them, but now, I can’t stop. They’re a daily necessity for me.
