Today is a big day for my little blog, and I am so excited to share! I wrote a post in January about views and other things, and how one of my goals for 2019 was to focus more on my blog, and increasing traffic. I’m honestly not sure if I’m super sold on the idea of having to focus on the numbers, to be honest, but it is kind of nice to look at them and see that a handful of people are finding their way to my blog each day.
Other than the generic “increasing views”, I haven’t really set firm goals for what I want to achieve with my blog. I really just enjoy it as a way to write about my day and what is going on in my life. I’ve never been one to journal, so this gives me a record to look back on and see where I was at various points in my life. I actually have a few blog scattered across the internet, and I recently found one, and it was really interesting to see where I was at that point in my life, versus where I am now.
I’m rambling. We know I do this.
So, the goal for 2019 was simple: increase blog traffic. I actually started on this in mid-December. So in December, I had a whopping 79 views, which I thought was awesome, because 2018 was a year of not really paying attention to my blog or the stats. It was a good start. January, however, super out performed December with a total of 121 views. That’s over forty more, and I think that’s so cool. As February began to pass, I thought it would be a really cool thing if I was able to surpass January’s views. That was the first firm goal I made. Maybe, just MAYBE, with a few less days, I would be able to get 122 views. I made 132, and I felt on top of the world. I was growing my little blog, one view at a time, and that was awesome.
As I was focusing on the monthly data, though, something else happened. I’ve mentioned that this blog hasn’t been a priority over the last year and a half, and so my yearly views weren’t the best. I’m sure I’ve mentioned these number before, but I had 180 views in 2017, and 267 in 2018. Well, today, March 3rd (because I’m writing this the day before I post it), I hit 267 views on my blog for 2019. In just over two months! That’s crazy! I’ve been watching the views, and even my mom knows how close I am because it’s exciting, and I keep telling her. Like, “Hey mom! Only ten more views until I hit 2018’s views”, usually followed by an “okay, sweety.” But it’s very exciting to me, and even though I only need one more view to technically reach my 2019 goal of increasing traffic to my blog, I’m definitely going to keep up with the daily blogging. I just don’t know if I’m going to bother paying as close of attention to the views, which is kind of double edged. I got the views because I focused on them. But, it was also in part because I’ve just been a lot more consistent about posting. So maybe it didn’t matter if I was watching. We’ll see. I still struggle with the value of numbers when it comes to validation. Are they really necessary? I know what a lot of people would say.
Regardless, I am going to celebrate this small numerical milestone and then just continue doing my thing.
